Biography
When Fulvio Bianconi came to Murano after the end of the Second World War to create a series of flacons for the perfume manufacturer Paolo Visconti di Modrone, Paolo Venini immediately recognised his enormous creative potential and won him over as a designer.
Since the 1930s he had built up an outstanding excellent reputation as a freelance graphic designer in Milan, where he created book covers and illustrations for the major Italian publishing houses Mondadori, Rizzoli and Garzanti. He was also responsible for advertising campaigns for the booming flagship companies of the country such as the car company Fiat, the tyre company Pirelli and the panettone and ice cream producer Motta - companies that still shape the image of Italy internationally with their export products. The musician's son had his first experience with glass at the age of fifteen at Salviati & Cie. where he decorated glasses with enamel paintings. In 1946, he began studying glass techniques in Murano, but Paolo Venini, known for his delight in innovation, hired the thirty-year-old and immediately put him in touch with his best master glassblower, Arturo Biasutto, who was to realize Bianconi’s designs at the highest level.
