Biography

Roger Pfund (born in Berne in 1943) trained as a graphic designer at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Berne before he became visible as a versatile artist.

In addition to paintings, he realized architectural projects, installations, more than a thousand posters, books and objects in various areas of culture, finance and industry. Together with his wife Elisabeth Pfund, he submitted drafts for new banknotes to the Swiss National Bank in 1970/71, but these were only considered for the back-up series. However, Pfund's drafts were exhibited at Documenta 5 in Kassel in 1972 in the section ‚‘Parallele Bildwelten: Geschichtliche Ikonographie. For many years he specialized in the creation and design of banknotes and designed currency for France, Argentina and the Comoros. "The banknote is a country's cultural ambassador," says Pfund. He is also one of 29 artists who submitted a design for the Euro with Robert Kalina, including his series 'Epoque et Styles’ in 2018.
