Biography

Otto Pilz, born in Sonneberg in 1876, initially studied at the Sonneberg Industrial School and then moved to the Royal Saxon School of Applied Arts in Dresden in 1895. There he studied, among other things, figure modelling. In early June 1898, Pilz traveled to Greece and the Orient for several weeks with the sculptor Oskar Erich Hösel (1869–1953) before continuing his studies at the Royal Prussian Academy of Fine Arts in Berlin in the winter semester of 1898. Most of his predominantly animal figures were executed at the Königl. Meissen Porcelain Manufactory. He died, seriously ill, in Dresden in 1934.
