Biography

Peter Tereszczuk (Wydbudow 1875 - 1963 Vienna)

Peter Tereszczuk studied woodcarving and sculpture under Prof. Hermann Klotz at the Vienna School of Arts and Crafts between 1893 and 1899. Among his fellow students were Michael Powolny and Gustav Gurschner. From 1900, he worked as a freelance artist in Vienna, mainly in bronze and chryselephantine, and benefited from the proximity of several well-known foundries in his neighborhood, such as the Arthur Rubinstein company, Atelier für Moderne Bronzen, and his own foundry, which he ran with an unknown Ullmann. He maintained his style almost until the 1920s. His repertoire included cute children's figures in Biedermeier costumes as well as delicate female figures, sometimes depicted in playful poses. His handcrafted works, especially desk utensils and table lamps, were also decorated with such figures. With the changing tastes of society after the First World War, it became quiet around the sculptor by 1925 at the latest. During the Second World War, he shifted his focus to creating bucolic ceramics. After the war, he worked on the restoration of St. Roch's Church and the Belvedere in Vienna. He died in 1963.
