Makuzo Kozan (in the style of)
Satsuma vase, Japan, late 19th century

Egg-shaped body widening towards the top with a trumpet-shaped neck and two sculptural lion head handles. Light beige body with transparent, finely craquelled glaze. In enamel colors, gold and flat relief on the neck. Surrounded by fish, lobsters and turtles between seaweed and lotus flowers. The vase body is set off at the top and bottom with gold parquet bands and divided into two pictorial fields with similar bands. One shows fighting frogs in a procession, the other the immortal Kinkô on a carp under flying cranes. H. 30 cm. Illegible pressed mark on the bottom.
