Oskar Mulley
View of a mountain farm, 1943

Oil on cardboard. Signed, dated, and inscribed lower right: Mulley Studie Garmisch 43. 32 x 49 cm. Framed. Oskar Mulley, born in Carinthia and trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, initially settled in Kufstein, Tyrol, after the First World War, where he developed his distinctive style of painting, executed using a palette knife technique. Mountain chapels and mountain farms played a dominant role as motifs and quickly found their way into the canon of modern Alpine landscape painting. Starting in 1934 in Garmisch, Mulley initially continued his palette knife technique before turning to finer brushwork in his later work.
