Cachepot. Japan. Meiji period, late 19th century. Bronze, black-brown patinated. Stocky, bulbous shape with a recessed edge. Elephants in sculptural relief all around. H. 22 cm; D. 26 cm. Incised signature on the bottom: Genryûsai Seiya.
Genryûsai Seiyai's workshop in Tokyo was famous in the Meiji period for its high-quality bronze works of expressively modeled animal groups.
