Ovoid, polished stone with red-brown inclusions. 24 x 14 cm.

The lingam is considered the purest embodiment of Shiva and is the most important symbol for the worship of this Hindu deity. The ovoid forms are created in the bed of the sacred Narmada River in western India by a constant grinding of the water masses. The Shiva Lingam is also a symbol of fertility. The shape of the stone symbolises male energy and the reddish-brown part symbolises female energy.
