Alfred Arndt
Folding chair for the Volkshaus, Probstzella

Designed and manufactured in 1927/28. Chrome-plated tubular steel, black-stained plywood. 92.5 x 41 x 51 cm.

This chair comes from the 'Haus des Volkes' (People's House) in Probstzella. Marked with a sticker 'Rat der Gemeinde / Probstzella' and inventory number at the backrest.
Alfred Arndt's folding chair is a further development of Mrcel Breuer's model, which was sold under the type designation B8.
According to the Arndt family, these chairs, which were installed in large numbers in the Haus des Volkes (People's House), were to be manufactured by the Bauhaus. However, the asking price was too high for the client, Franz Itting, so he had them manufactured in his own small metalworking shop.
