Hugo Leven
Candlestick

Designed in 1905. Manufactured by Koch & Bergfeld, Bremen. Model no. 47077. Silver. A very rare candlestick. Architectural construction with coffered ornamentation. Bowl-like base on four rectangular feet with a round, flat substructure. Pillar-shaped shaft with a square drip tray. H. 16 cm, D. 13.5 cm. 823 g. Marked on the underside with the model number, maker's mark, and fineness: 47077, foot bowl, 925, crescent moon, and crown. Hugo Leven was head of the Koch & Bergfeld design office between 1904 and 1909. This candlestick was designed in 1905 and exhibited at the 3rd German Arts and Crafts Exhibition in Dresden in 1906. It is considered one of Hugo Leven's most important silver works. To date, no other versions have been identified in private or public collections.
