Rupert Carabin, figurative tobacco pot for Molines, Paris
Rupert Carabin. Very rare figural tobacco pot. Model for the Paris World Exhibition in 1900. Faience, green and brown glazed. Semi-sculptural female figure as a kind of handle, nestling against a pumpkin. H. 13 cm. Inscribed on the bottom: Artist's signet RCf, 13 (embossed).
A different version of the pot was acquired by the Museum of Arts and Crafts in Hamburg under Justus Brinkmann at the World Exhibition in Paris in 1900. It was lost during or immediately after the Second World War. A replacement was purchased from the Paris art market in 1975. The museum piece and the present example are therefore the only pieces known to date.
